The challenge

Identifying the right CFO for Zen Energy required a highly specialized search due to the unique demands of the role. The ideal candidate needed deep expertise across finance, strategy, and capital markets, combined with a sophisticated understanding of the renewable energy sector, energy trading, and corporate transactions. Compounding the complexity, Zen sought a leader who could seamlessly navigate the dual imperatives of commercial acumen and purpose-driven impact. The CFO needed to balance aggressive growth targets with financial prudence while engaging with institutional investors, government bodies, and industry stakeholders. The talent pool was highly constrained, as few candidates possessed the requisite mix of experience in energy markets, M&A, and infrastructure investments, alongside a passion for the energy transition. Furthermore, Zen required a leader with the agility to operate in a fast-growing, entrepreneurial environment while maintaining the rigor expected by investors and the Board.

The roles

Chief Financial Officer: Zen Energy required a CFO to assume a broad role, navigating the complexities of strategy, value creation, corporate development, transactions, investor & shareholder relations, funding, capital management & allocation, risk, data & insights, and transformation. The CFO would play a critical role in supporting and driving the broader business portfolio, actively contributing to the Wholesale Trading division, the Customer group, and the asset development stream.
